Half of employees will do holiday shopping at work

dreaming-at-christmas-2Winter holidays are coming and people start to spend more and more time searching for Christmas presents for their friends and families. “Avoid the Christmas crowds and do your Christmas shopping from home this year!” this is how most online shopping sites ads sound like. And this wouldn’t be a bad thing at all if we wouldn’t consider the CareerBuilder survey which concluded that more than half of employees who have Internet access at work say they will shop for holiday gifts from the office.

While online shopping may be far more efficient than braving the crowds at lunch hour or after work time, employee online shopping at work can compromise both security and productivity. Employees wasting time at work

We all have to admit that reading the entertainment news online, watching short funny videos, planning vacations, shopping online or scheduling hair appointments are activities that we do during work time. No matter the hierarchical level we are inside the company, we have to take care how often we do it and try not to cross the limit of good sense.

The Salary.com’s fourth annual “Wasting Time at Work study”, revealed interesting numbers for last year too. During this survey more than 2,500 employees across all job levels have been questioned. 90% of the participants (55% female and 45% male) - work full-time and spend between eight to ten hours in the workplace each day.
