Make a 4 Day Work Week Work This Summer

calendarSummer is an ideal time to enjoy a four day work week. Most businesses are a bit slower in the summer than during the rest of the year. Plus the weather is so beautiful that it?s great if you can take some three-day weekends and get out into nature. This can be really refreshing for you which ultimately makes you more productive. However, you don?t want to spend the summer being lazy. To make a four day work week work for you, you need to get enough done and also earn enough money to pay your bills even though you?re taking that fifth day off each week.

Most people will find that it is possible to accomplish as much in four days as you get done in five. There are multiple ways that you can achieve this. One is to work ten hour days instead of eight hour days. Another is to simply be more productive in the first four days of the week. To do this, simply set weekly goals that reflect what you would like to get done in the normal work week. Then organize the tasks for each week to allow you to meet those goals. Allow yourself the reward of taking Friday off if everything gets done before then. You?ll be motivated to stay on task and you?ll probably find yourself getting everything done in those four days. When 9-5 Just Isn’t Working for your Business

9-5If you operate a small business then there?s a good chance that you started that business with a normal schedule. You?re open Monday through Friday from 9-5 or something close to that. You work forty hours per week (or sometimes more) and so do your employees. But does this work schedule really make sense in today?s society? More and more people are realizing that 9-5 just doesn?t work for them.

Reasons the 9-5 Schedule May Not Work

There are a variety of reasons that this schedule may not be working for you anymore. These reasons may include:

??You?re spending too much time on your commute. People who work standard hours are in traffic at the same time as everyone else which makes your work day longer but you don?t get anything done during that time.
??You don?t want to be in the office five days per week. Many people would prefer to work longer hours for 3-4 days per week than to have to work 5 days out of 7.
??You want different days off. The Monday-Friday schedule works for most people but some people would prefer to have weekdays off. And some people just like working weekends. Many people find that working weekends makes them more productive because there are fewer distractions throughout the day.
??You would prefer to take off large chunks of time. Some people would prefer not to have days off throughout the year if it meant they could take two months off at one time. That?s not a reality for all businesses but some schedules can be adjusted to accommodate longer breaks. These breaks can be very invigorating for people; you come back to the job with fresh eyes. How Taking Time for Yourself Increases Productivity

taking-time-for-yourselfPeople who have a drive to be productive often end up sabotaging themselves in their efforts to achieve this very goal. That is because most people believe that being productive means working as much as possible all of the time. Although part of productivity is being prolific in whatever you do, part of it is also being at the top of your game. You can?t be totally on the ball if you?re exhausted or overworked. That?s why those people who are the most productive in their lives and in their work are the people who have learned the difficult task of balancing a busy working life with the ability to take time for themselves on a regular basis.

Taking time for yourself increases your productivity in three major ways. First of all, it gives you the physical rest that you need to be able to maintain productivity over time. Saving time or saving money?

This question came in my mind while I took part to a forum discussion regarding some business strategies. The idea was that some strategies involve more time, others involve less and the ROI might not always be archived. 42-18715239

Supposing that there is no way to have both of them, choosing only one is quite a difficult job.? Like a friend of mine said, it is just like the dilemma: what came first the egg or the hen? Everybody loves money because they can buy you time; having a bigger budget you could use it to save time and use the time to “create” other tasks and make more money.
The reason why we can?t have both is because these two have an inverse relationship. One decreases when the other increases. Things that save time cost money, while earning money takes time. Continue reading ‘Saving time or saving money?’
