Creating and working in team is one of the most challenging things to deal in a company because working and cooperating with people is challenging. Creating a team is not difficult: just gather some people and that is all. However, creating productive teams than this is another story. It’s not just enough to get people together, but you must know their skills, aptitudes, interests and even their personality. Each member of a team must understand the mission and objectives of your organization. Even if he has a specific job function and belongs to a specific department there must exist unification in order to accomplish a common goal.
The failure of a work team appears when leaders fail to define the team they wanted to build. That is why it is important to have some strategies and to know to create an efficient work team. So before making a team, consider the following strategies.
Clear Expectation.
Each employee must know its role and place, in your organization. To be sure that you have clearly detailed and explained where everyone fits in the organizational structure you should use organizational charts and create periodical meetings. Meetings will improve communication and will keep teams on track.
Common Goal.
Having a unique goal will keep team focused on that specific goal.
Commitment.
Members must be aware that the team mission is important and everyone’s job it’s important in order to archive the common goal. If one of the members lacks commitment, than this affect the entire project.
Collaboration.
Even if you have created a great team with people that knows their role and are committed to finish the project it’s still not enough. Team members must cooperate and share their work. Having group norms, rules of conduct for conflict resolution, decision-making and meeting management are key-points that must not be ignore.
Control.
You must assure team the freedom they need, but at the same time, team members must have some limits. A project leader could unify the team and keep a balance among all members.
What you have to keep in mind is that if you managed to create the “perfect team” than this will definitely bring benefits for your company and will improve productivity. However, if you think you cannot handle this situation, you can ask for outside support. There are many companies specialized in teamwork that will help you to get people work together achieve better results.
