Top Mobile Phone Tips to Increase Productivity

mobile-phoneYour mobile phone is a powerful tool. Used correctly, it can significantly increase the amount of productivity that you experience throughout the day. Used incorrectly, however, it can easily distract you from the things that you need to get done. Use the following tips to increase your mobile phone productivity:

• Make use of Unified Communications tools. There are a lot of great tools out there that can link all of your different modes of communication together. This allows you to easily move between your phone and computer to share information in an efficient manner.

• Ask yourself what the most efficient method of communication is. Whether or not you are using UC tools, you should be consciously choosing the best method of communicating with your phone. Before placing a call, ask yourself if a text message or a voice conference would be more efficient. Conscious decisions lead to true productivity.

• Do not accept calls all throughout the day. Every time that you accept a phone call, you are accepting an interruption into your day. Make it a habit to keep the phone off throughout the day and to return all calls at specific times. For example, you may check messages and return calls first thing in the morning, during your lunch break and just before leaving the office.

• Know what you’re calling for. Avoid wasting time chatting on the phone by knowing exactly what you want before placing a call. Limit the scope of the call to exchanging that information.

• Get familiar with your phone. So many people have terrific smartphones that are capable of doing many advanced things and yet they fail to maximize their use of them because they don’t really know how to use all of the tools that are available to them. Schedule an hour or two into your week to get to know your phone.

• Remove all applications from your phone that waste your time. If you get too tempted by mobile phone games or mobile social networking sites then you should limit your access to them. If you are using your mobile phone during downtime, you should be using it in a way that will increase your productivity. Updating your calendar and checking your email from your phone while waiting in line is productive. Playing games is not.

• Send messages to yourself. Productive people take notes all throughout the day. This helps to remind them of things that they need to do or want to look up. They then go through these notes at the end of each day. You can use your phone to send yourself these types of helpful messages.

Mobile phones can provide us with a lot of function these days. As with all technology, we have to learn how to use our phones properly in order to increase productivity.
