Considering the hard times we are living it is getting more and more difficult for companies to achieve their objectives. And because employees help companies stand up and move forward it is crucial for them to be more engaged, satisfied and fulfilled in their work. It is very important for them to feel a greater sense of accomplishment at the end of each day.
Here are a few tips for improving your work life, tips that will trickle into the rest of your life too:
- Plan your week and your day! This will help you have a clear image of what exactly you have to do in every moment of the day, and you will have your most productive week all the time.
- Don’t check email first! Start your day planning and completing top priority tasks. There are cases where the job requires e-mail verifications first thing in the morning because this might change the priorities orders.
- Don’t dramatize! Don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill. Don’t make deadlines, tough bosses, rude clients or slow computers into large dramas. This will not make your computer faster or your boss nicer. Simply accept that they are there, and just keep moving forward.
- Collaborate, ask for help! Think creatively and find the perfect ways to work with others in order to generate a greater result than if you had each worked on this alone.
- Learn from criticism. Learn from everything. Ask feedback from all people, not only the ones you like. People you don’t like may be giving you more honest feedback than others can. Don’t immediately reject critiques from others, even if you don’t like or respect them. Don’t take it personally and listen to them, process the information and decide what positive action to take.
- Be positive, be happy, be creative! You don’t have to be serious all the time in order to be productive and competitive. Enjoy your time at work and the others will do the same. It’s contagious and it grows. Avoid gossip and negative chat as it doesn’t serve anyone well, including yourself.
- Enjoy the way to office and the way back home. If you got into your office pissed off because of the traffic this will not help you at all. Enjoy your commute, make this time a positive time and that happiness will spill over into how you feel at work.
- Take breaks and take your vacation time. Studies have proven that taking breaks will increase productivity. Remember that the key to happiness is variety. Try doing something different in vacations. Get some good time to rest.
- Be realistic: accept that you’ll never finish your task list. This one is for perfectionist persons that are frustrated by the fact that they never complete their “to do” list. Just make sure you work on your most important tasks first, there is time for everything.
