Spying stuff or employee monitoring?

Unfortunately the common language does not make the difference between employee spying and employee monitoring activity. And without a solid mental construction, people very easily confuse these terms. One reason why the confusion appears is because these two activities can be obtained with the same tool. But there are different approaches when employers are being spied with a spy cam in their intimacy, or when are spied at bank’ cash. As you can see, the difference between these two activities is the limit to which they are processed.

42-16880740Spying employees (for example at bank cash) is a necessity and the right term for this is employee monitoring activity. The activity is legal and indispensable because securing data and resources is a company’s priority. Managers are aware of the risks they take if they don’t opt for a monitoring solution, as employees within the company might intentionally or not intentionally harm the company’s assets. Another difference between spying and monitoring is that for the last one, informing employees is compulsory. The same applies when we talk about the employees’ activity on computers.

On the other hand, spying employees is an illegal activity because the persons involved are not aware of the fact that they are being monitored. This is an abuse to employees’ rights and companies in cause might get in serious problem with the law.
